The LP was released in 1983 and the Sunday People immediately became a huge hit. The Monroes was the first artists in Norway to receive the Norwegian Year Grammy «Spellemannsprisen». Members of The Monroes was guitarist Eivind Rølles and singer Lage Fossheim. Both of them passed away in 2013, only 54 and 55 years old. I wrote this piece for a school band seated in Asker, a community with its name derived from the word “ash”. The tree is also known in Norse mythology as Yggdrasil. The piece is based on two types of musical material, the blues scale, and some motives that are quite different to blues, f.ex. a lydian-souding motive (b. 29). When I force the two types of material together, the musical alchemy is carried throughout on rhythms that add energy to the process.
